Smile-o-meter
Measuring the social return of public art. A research partnership exploring smile counting as impact currency.
A playful audience-engagement add-on for events, offering a light-touch way to capture mood and participation data while creating an interactive ‘moment’ for the crowd.
Introduction
The arts sector is falling behind in its ability to measure social impact with the kind of rigour that funders and policymakers expect. The Smile-o-meter project, developed with Goldsmiths University of London, explores whether smile counting can become a new currency for measuring social return in public space.
Part of BOSI's ongoing academic and research strand, this work sits at the intersection of artistic practice, technology, and social science.
